NORRA 500 Border Crossing Instructions for Racers
Get your team ready to cross into Mexico for the 2026 NORRA 500! Submit your team’s customs information by 12 noon Pacific Time, Sunday, October 4, 2026, to help make your crossing as smooth as possible.
Expedited border crossings for NORRA racers will be coordinated only at the San Ysidro/Tijuana “El Chaparral” crossing. All NORRA racers must use the far-right lane. NORRA does not recommend crossing at Tecate with large vehicles or trailers.
REGISTER YOUR SUPPORT VEHICLES, TRAILERS AND SPARE PARTS
Make sure every vehicle carrying race-related equipment is included on NORRA’s customs list. This includes transport trucks, trailers and chase vehicles. You do not need to list your race vehicle unless it is street legal and you will be driving it across the border.
Drivers and co-drivers should log in to the NORRA account used to register for the event. Chase team and crew members who do not have an account should create one.
Select “Mexican Customs” and enter:
- The year, make, model and license plate of each truck and trailer.
- A list of spare parts being transported, including tires.
BEFORE YOU CROSS
Travel documents and FMM
Everyone in your party should carry a valid passport or an eligible passport card and obtain the immigration documents required for their visit, including an FMM tourist card where applicable.
You can complete the Mexico FMM application online. Print the completed form and bring it with your travel documents to Mexican Immigration for validation at the border. You may also obtain an FMM at the crossing.
Dates on the application use day/month/year format. For the San Ysidro/Tijuana crossing, select El Chaparral as your point of entry.
Complete immigration formalities at the border before continuing to Ensenada. Keep your validated documents available for inspection during your trip.
Mexican vehicle insurance
Arrange Mexican vehicle insurance before you leave, and confirm that your coverage applies to your vehicles and planned travel.
NORRA does not recommend or endorse any specific insurance company.
Identify your team vehicles
All race teams and support vehicles should display a NORRA windshield sticker or a clearly visible printed NORRA logo on the dashboard to help Mexican Customs identify participating teams.

Keep the following documents together in a folder, ready for inspection:
- Vehicle registration.
- Proof of ownership, green sticker, invoice or applicable DMV paperwork.
- A photocopy of the owner’s ID if the owner of the race car or support vehicle is not present.
- A list of major spare parts, including engines, transmissions, wheels and tires, along with invoices.
- All vehicles must have license plates, except where an exemption applies to a race vehicle.
Spare parts must correspond to the race vehicle. Duty may be charged on spare engines and transmissions, with treatment determined on a case-by-case basis. A maximum of four spare tires per race or chase truck may cross duty free.
Vehicles carrying race-car spare parts must cross at the same time as the race car. Chase trucks carrying spare parts may not cross separately and receive the same duty-free treatment.
Do not transport spare fuel across the border.
