This year’s NORRA 500 offers an incredible Baja racing experience. Competitors will take the green flag at Rancho Nelson on day one of racing. The finish line celebration will be held at the historic Horsepower Ranch. The following day we move to the infamous Estero Beach short course track for the start with the finish back at the resort at Estero Beach. Bikes are back; they will enjoy the same start and finish lines, but run separate, bike only courses both days. The road books for every bike stage are designed by our motorcycle race director, Dakar Rally veteran Jimmy Lewis. Race classes exist for road book navigation and GPS guidance.
At NORRA races, your speed is rewarded. The rally format insures that every time you leave a starting line, you’re at your best. There is no such thing as missing the set-up and your race is over. There are multiple opportunities to improve your car or bike. At NORRA, you run several timed, high-speed stages each day. Between those stages you have transit stages where there is time to make adjustments, top off fluids, get a drink of water; even a bite to eat. If you change drivers or riders, you can do it off the clock. The emphasis is on your best performance.
The NORRA 500 is easy to chase. It can be managed with a light crew and one chase truck. Stages are designed to finish close to fuel locations and main highways. The NORRA 500’s unique format is intended to reduce complicated planning and logistics, and create an event that racers can easily manage. It is a loop race that begins, and ends around Ensenada both days. Your team can stay at the same hotel for the entire event. If you have always wanted to bring your family and friends to see what NORRA is all about, or want to get your feet wet racing in Baja, this is the event for you!
The adventure begins before the green flag ever drops. NORRA participants enjoy special expedited border crossings for our group. Once registered online or during late registration at the event, you are added to our NORRA app and a private NORRA group chat where teams connect, swap advice, ask for parts assistance, and even arrange to caravan south together. That sense of community starts at the border and carries through the entire event.
No other racing series has a more diverse field of cars, trucks, buggies, motorcycles and UTV’s competing. Entries span the entire history of over 50 years of offroad racing. In order to accommodate such a diverse collection of race vehicles, the overall classification structure is determined by the era of racing the cars competed in. That way, competitors can be matched against similar cars that all have the same technology. If you have an older car, dust it off and come have a blast with us racing in Baja.
NORRA also has the Meyers Manx Safari Expedition which is for modified street legal vehicles. The Safari Expedition is a guided tour that follows parts of the race course, but also takes in points of interest, and great food along the way.
Everything you need to know about NORRA’s Baja Mexican 1000, and NORRA 500 can be found at www.norra.com. Go to the site and find out for yourself why NORRA has exploded in popularity. It’s the greatest racing adventure in Baja. NORRA is the Baja original. You can experience the same wonder and sense of achievement those early thrill seekers sought in the 1960’s today when you join NORRA in Baja. Don’t miss out on the fun and competition!
