10K and Trophies up for Grabs, Class 10, Pro UTV Structure Change

The ten thousand dollar prize for the fastest Class 10 car or Pro UTV is still on, but NORRA is splitting cars and UTVs into separate classes. The Pro UTVs will be racing for their own podium positions; the same goes for the class ten cars. The 10K Buggy versus Pro UTV challenge is still on though. Whoever has the fastest time between Class 10s and Pro UTVs will take home the cash prize. If a Class 10 beats all the Pro UTVs, they will take home the money and the Honda race engine from Lozano Performance (if there are at least 5 class 10 cars entered). Pro Turbo UTVs also have their own 10K cash prize for the winner!

The structure change allows more competition between the separate vehicle types. Both classes can now battle within their same categories for the top podium positions and coveted NORRA trophies. We had some drivers requesting this change, so NORRA listened. NORRA strives to provide the greatest Baja racing experience for our competitors. If this enhances competition, we’re all for it. Let the battles begin!

The NORRA 500 is a rally format race that has multiple timed high speed stages. In addition to class podium trophies, the fastest overall on each day will take home a trophy. The mountain day winner gets King of the Mountain and the beach day winner, King of the Beach. Due to the incredible diversity of terrain at the NORRA 500, there are multiple challenges. Will anyone take home both of the “King of” trophies? Is that even possible? Who is up for the challenge?

This year’s NORRA 500 offers an incredible Baja racing experience. Competitors will take the green flag at Rancho Nelson on day one of racing. The finish line celebration will be held at the historic Horsepower Ranch. The following day we move to the infamous Estero Beach short course track for the start with the finish back at the resort at Estero Beach. Bikes are back; they will enjoy the same start and finish lines, but run separate, bike only courses both days. The road books for every bike stage are designed by our motorcycle race director, Dakar Rally veteran Jimmy Lewis. Race classes exist for road book navigation and GPS guidance.

At NORRA races, your speed is rewarded. The rally format insures that every time you leave a starting line, you’re at your best. There is no such thing as missing the set-up and your race is over. There are multiple opportunities to improve your car or bike between stages or during the overnight hours between days. At NORRA, you run several timed, high-speed stages each day. Between those stages you have transit stages where there is time to make adjustments, top off fluids, get a drink of water; even a bite to eat. If you change drivers or riders, you can do it off the clock. The emphasis is on your best performance.

No other racing series has a more diverse field of cars, trucks, buggies, motorcycles and UTV’s competing. Entries span the entire history of over 50 years of offroad racing. In order to accommodate such a diverse collection of race vehicles, the overall classification structure is determined by the era of racing the cars competed in. That way, competitors can be matched against similar cars that all have the same technology. If you have an older car, dust it off and come have a blast with us racing in Baja. Early, online registration discounts expire on Wednesday, October 1st at 6:00 pm Pacific Time so don’t wait any longer. Go to www.norra.com to enter.
