Bikes Are Officially Back at the NORRA 500
Riders wanted to race with NORRA at the 500 so we responded. It’s official, bikes will now be racing at the NORRA 500. NORRA has classes for every type of bike. Pro and amateur classes use road book navigation for the most part. There is also a new GPS Class that allows riders not wanting to use roadbook navigation to do the race utilizing a track log file on a slightly modified course.
Riders will be competing in rally format for two days of racing. Bikes will have the courses to themselves. They will do separate loops from the 4 wheeled vehicles on both days. Daily courses will start and finish around Ensenada. There will be timed special stages ran at race speeds connected by transit stages that are run at local speed limits. During the transit stages, you will have time off the clock to eat, drink or adjust on your bike. At the start of each special stage you will be ready to race. The terrain you will be racing on is some of the most epic that Baja has to offer. Course files are released each morning at the starting line. There is no prerunning, you must navigate every stage. It’s a mental as well as physical challenge.
In addition to the NORRA 500 being easy to race and easy to chase, it’s a great stepping stone to the Mexican 1000 or other international rally events. NORRA provides sweep crews to help any rider who may need assistance on course. Even if you don’t own a rally bike, Baja Bound Adventures offers complete packages as needed that can include bike rentals, hotels, transportation from San Diego, California, fueling, even breakfast and lunch. They will also pit and chase for you if you already have a bike, but need a team for support. Go to bajaboundmoto.com for information about their NORRA 500 packages.
If you’ve raced the NORRA 500 with us before, you know how fun and competitive it is. If you are new to racing in Baja, the 500 is the perfect event to get your first taste of NORRA. The logistics are very simple. Ensenada has many hotel choices available so your team can stay in the same place for the entire event. The 500 offers participants all the amenities of Ensenada with rugged, challenging terrain for racing.
For riders who are ready to go, visit the NORRA website at www.norra.com. Create a rider profile if you don’t already have one. In order to make things easier at registration, there is a new online waiver that every participant must fill out prior to the event. All riders need to have complete profile information filled out and the waiver signed. Please have this done online while registration is still open and before getting to Ensenada. We will also be using rider photos from your profile during the live feed of the event. Make sure the photos are appropriate head shots and of decent quality so we can show you in the best light. Online registration is open now and you’ll receive special discount pricing on entries and event wristbands when you register early.
