NORRA Rewards Class 10 Speed

What is racing if not for speed? Everyone loves to go fast and desert racing is about going fast where nobody has any business doing so. If you want to have gobs of torque on demand and all the horsepower in the world, race an unlimited truck with all-wheel drive. If you want to test your courage, race a more limited vehicle like a class 10 car. The engine is limited, but the suspension is not. That means you can’t rely on horsepower, you have to keep that motor wound up all the time. Since everyone is roughly the same, it becomes a contest as to who can keep the motor pinned the entire time. Are you capable of carrying your speed, no matter what the terrain? It’s been said that if you lift the throttle or hit the brakes, you just lost. It’s a test of skill and nerve and the deciding factor is consistent speed.

At NORRA races, speed is rewarded. The rally format insures that every time you leave a starting line, you’re at your best. There is no such thing as missing the set-up and your race is over. There are multiple opportunities to improve the car and the occupants. At NORRA, you run several timed, high-speed stages each day. Between those stages you have transit stages where there is time to make adjustments, top off fluids, get a drink of water; even a bite to eat. If you change drivers, you can do it off the clock. The emphasis is on your best performance, not getting a bad draw, getting blocked or having to pass slower vehicles from other classes. There is no nerfing allowed, therefore NORRA uses a push to pass system. When you catch anyone a signal is sent and they must let you by. If the car ahead is blocking, they will receive a time penalty which negates any advantage to that behavior. The faster you go, the farther up front you start on the next stage. Your speed is rewarded. It all starts with the first stage of the rally. The prologue is held to determine starting order. The fast drivers will start at the front on the next stage. The more you maintain your speed, the farther up front you’ll end up. You are unleashed to run your own race.

This does not mean there is no battling out on course, the opposite is true. It ensures that all competitors are at their peak levels of performance at the beginning of each stage. At NORRA events you will be racing on the most iconic off road terrain on the planet. NORRA created sanctioned off road racing in 1967. NORRA is the original Baja racing adventure. In addition to the competition out on the course, NORRA immerses participants in the history, culture and challenge of racing in Baja. Class 10 is combined with Pro UTV so there is stiff competition from many successful teams with incredible drivers. The Pro UTV’s are competing for the class win, cash prize and also an overall UTV Trophy from the Fab School.

Class 10 cars compete for the Pro UTV/class 10 win, cash prize money and if five or more cars enter, Lozano Performance will award a K24 Honda race engine for a class 10 team who wins the Pro UTV/class 10 overall. The Lozano Performance K24, valued at $9500, has torque, horsepower and Honda reliability. The Lozano engine can be a big game changer for your class 10 race package.

Online registration is now open for the NORRA 500. Taking place October 9-12, the NORRA 500 is a fun and challenging event that is great for seasoned competitors as well as those who are new to racing in Baja.
