NORRA’s Baja, Bilstein Was There in Every Era
NORRA’s Baja is the originator of sanctioned off road racing in Baja back in 1967. Today NORRA has competitors from every era of racing in the field. The eras of off road racing are Pioneer (1967-1975), Legend (1976-1982), Challenger (1983-1992), Vintage (1993 to 20+ years old), Historic (must be at least 20 years old) and Evolution for the modern era. They are all unique in their own ways, but still similar in that each era of vehicles have raced on Bilstein shocks. Many of the historical cars and trucks competing in NORRA’s Baja Mexican 1000 are running on the same shocks that the vehicle was equipped with when new. During this year’s rally, which takes place from April 24th through May 2nd, there are numerous restored original vehicles racing on Bilstein shocks.
In addition to several Meyers Manx’ in the pioneer era, one of the oldest race vehicles is one of only 35 ever built, Funco Wampuskitty buggies. It raced the Mexican 1000 in 1968 and is still racing on Bilstein shocks today. Also entered in the pioneer era is the 1973 Sandmaster Panzer of the Smith family. Chad Smith is joined by his three daughters Kaycee, Lindey and Leah along with Duane and Traci Falls and Mike and Lori Ann Dario. Their restored Sandmaster Panzer rides on Bilstein M7100 shock absorbers. M7100’s are perfect for meeting the demands of custom motorsports and off-road recreational vehicles. Their High-flow piston reduces harshness along with the self-adjusting deflective disc valving. Completely rebuildable, M7100’s have always been a shock of choice for both serious competitors and enthusiasts.
Bilstein’s current offerings are the result of technical knowledge gained over the course of over 140 years of innovation. Whether they are race trucks or custom built buggies, Bilstein has applications that cover everything from daily drivers to professional race vehicles; on, and off the road. Bilstein’s Black Hawk Powersports shock absorbers use a patented two stage, externally adjustable Zone Control jounce cut-off system. The Black Hawks contain 4-Way Adjustable Damping, Dual Speed Compression Adjustable Reservoir (High-Low Speed), Adjustable Internal Hydraulic Bump Stop (JCO) and Adjustable Rebound. Bilstein’s technology will transform your factory based truck or SUV into a performance offroad machine, or allow your race vehicle to outperform the competition in the toughest conditions.
Participants in NORRA’s Baja Mexican 1000 will race for six days down the Baja Peninsula. They will need the legendary reliability the Bilstein provides.
