NORRA, the Best Bargain in Off Road Racing
There’s an old adage that asks “How to be an off road racer and a millionaire; start with 10 million dollars.” If you want to race at the highest level of the sport, that might be true. But there is an alternative that’s much more attainable and lots more fun. NORRA is a unique Baja racing organization that “Honors the Past, While Forging the Future.” No other racing has a more diverse field of cars, trucks, buggies, motorcycles, and UTV’s competing. Entries span the entire history of over 50 years of offroad racing. In order to accommodate such a diverse collection of race vehicles, the overall classification structure is determined by the era of racing the cars competed in. That way, competitors can be matched against similar cars that all have the same technology.
You can find an older, used vehicle, get your friends and family together and race in Baja for a fraction of the cost. NORRA runs a rally type format with stops each night in a different town. It gives teams the opportunity to do any maintenance on their vehicles and it allows the opportunity to take in new sights and to experience the rich culture of Baja. If you have a bad day, no worries, you’re not left with the agony of defeat. There are multiple days of racing where you can battle your way back to the top.
Most teams will help fellow competitors finish the rally for the huge celebration on the beach at the finish in San Jose Del Cabo. We also have The Fab School Repair Team lending a helping hand to everyone. They bring extensive knowledge and experience that is a huge asset to any competitor. Whether it’s fabrication, welding or just some helpful advice, they are there every night to get everyone back on their way the next day. They are a huge asset to every team.
You’ll be racing against all types of competitors that range from current racing professionals to icons of the sport and regular Joes out for the adventures of a lifetime. NORRA brings the fun back to racing. Our events aren’t a punishing, go for broke, all or nothing speed contest. They have plenty of fast, challenging competition, but are also geared towards having fun and making friends with other like-minded people who love Baja. For those who are new to racing, you’ll become a seasoned Baja traveler after a single event. Remember, the goal is to have fun; it’s not a torture test. Many people note the unique spots they pass on the trip down, so they can spend even more leisurely time at those favorite spots on the drive home.
The best thing about NORRA racing is the shared experiences, and friendships made along the way. The second best thing is all the cool vehicles that participate. Every single one of them has a story, even the brand new builds. Many are treasures that took a lot of work to discover, restore, and return to the dirt. Others were just dusted off, and pressed back into service. If you love to race, love to have fun, and love the food, drink and music of Baja, you must come down and experience “The Happiest Race On Earth,” the NORRA Mexican 1000.
