¡RALLY ALERT!
Fuel Tank Rules for UTVs
There has been some confusion about approved fuel tanks for NORRA UTV competitors. It’s simple, you can run a stock, factory installed fuel tank or an approved fuel cell consisting of a bladder and a can. Fuel cells that have been certified for safety are made by companies like Fuel Safe, Harmon, Pyrotech and Jaz. They have several choices when it comes to capacity. No auxiliary tanks or extra fuel jugs are allowed. If you have one of those, they need to be removed from the vehicle in order to pass technical inspection.
We understand this puts some anxiety in the minds of those running factory tanks, but don’t fear, Mag7 has you covered. On the longer stages that route you far off the beaten path, Mag7 will be there to support NORRA UTV teams. They will have fuel stops to top you off, just like they’ve done since 1967. Their dedication to NORRA competitors has been unwavering from the very beginning.
Because NORRA travels through the most remote and spectacular terrain in Baja, there are three remote Mag 7 fuel stop locations during the event. These remote fuel stops are not pit locations. No pit crews will be allowed to work on vehicles there. They are hours away from the nearest pavement so it would be a waste of time to dedicate an entire chase truck and crew; only for a splash of fuel. A nominal fee will cover the fuel and logistics for Mag7’s efforts. Teams have the choice of using the remote fuel stops or upfitting their UTV with an extra capacity approved fuel cell; whatever works best for you.
If you still have questions, NORRA will be holding an online zoom meeting where you can interact with Race Director Eliseo Garcia. Look for the announcement of the date and time of the meeting soon. Everything you need to know about the Mexican 1000, and NORRA 500 can be found at www.norra.com Go to the site and find out for yourself why NORRA has exploded in popularity. You can experience the same wonder and sense of achievement those early thrill seekers sought in the 1960’s today when you join NORRA in Baja. NORRA events honor the past, while forging the future. Don’t miss out on the fun.
