It’s Cooler in Baja at the NORRA 500
If you don’t want to get heat stroke while eating fast food tacos, come to the NORRA 500 October 11th through the 13th in Ensenada, Baja Mexico. The course is cool, the weather will be cool and the tacos are authentic. The course heads down and back along the Pacific Coast with an overnight stay in San Quintin. Two full days of racing will include the King of the Beach competition. The King of the Beach will be awarded for the fastest time on the final stage of day two; a dash up the coast which includes the hill climb and boulder beach sections.
At the 500, NORRA is having a special celebration of the VW Beetle that includes a class 11 race with Vintage and Evolution classes each racing for $4000 in cash as well as a combined overall trophy. For the UTV’s and class 10’s, the winner of the UTV Pro Turbo class will take home twenty thousand dollars. The winner of the Pro 2000 UTV and class 10 car combined class will also receive twenty thousand dollars in prize money. If a class 10 car wins class 2000, they will also win a Lozano Performance K24 Honda race engine worth $9500.
Online registration is closed, but you can still enter the race during contingency at the Riviera Convention Center (Red Ballroom) in Ensenada on October 11th. Registration opens at 8am. UTV racers get there early because PRO TURBO UTV / PRO 2000 will go through tech first and then Qualify for starting positions at Rancho Nelson (KM 19 Hwy 3) from 1pm-3pm that afternoon.
No other racing series has a more diverse field of cars, trucks, buggies and UTV’s competing. Entries span the entire history of over 50 years of offroad racing. In order to accommodate such a diverse collection of race vehicles, the overall classification structure is determined by the era of racing the cars competed in. That way, competitors can be matched against similar cars that all have the same technology. NORRA also has the Meyers Manx Safari Expedition which is for modified street legal vehicles. The Safari Expedition is a guided tour that follows parts of the race course, but also takes in some points of interest, and great food along the way.
