AGUA DULCE, CALIF. - Meyers Manx is now the presenting sponsor of NORRA and the Mexican 1000. NORRA and Meyers Manx go all the way back to the very beginning of sanctioned off road racing. Competitors in the first ever NORRA Mexican 1000 in 1967 set out to see who would be the fastest down the Baja Peninsula to LaPaz. It was not certain they would even make it the entire way, but they were willing to give it their all in the name of adventure.
The Meyers Manx team had three cars in the race; a red car driven by Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels, “Goldi” driven by Bruce Meyers and “Wheelo” Anderson, and a third car driven by George Haddock and Jimmy Smith. The win went to the number 10 Meyers Manx team car of Wilson and Mangels. Their historic journey helped to establish the sport of offroad racing, and launched an automotive icon; Bruce Meyers’ Meyers Manx buggy.
Today you can still challenge the Baja Peninsula at the NORRA Mexican 1000, but in a brand new, digitally remastered Meyers Manx. They kept all the original lines that Bruce Meyers hand crafted, but brought the molds into the computer age with a level of accuracy that did not exist in the 1960’s. They also created increased functionality with added storage in a formerly dead space under the rear shelf. All bodies are much easier to assemble with the new precision achieved. With the new remastered Classic kit, you’ll be able to walk in the footsteps of legendary racers and rock stars. It’s the only car on the road designed to make you smile! At meyersmanx.com you can also order a Manxter 2+2 or the soon to be released Manx 2.0 EV. Parts to build or customize your Manx and Meyers Manx gear are also available on the website. Meyers Manx will be documenting their adventures live on social media during the NORRA Mexican 1000 April 28th through May 5th in Baja, Mexico. There will be several Meyers Manx cars taking part in the rally.
With a Meyers Manx you can set out for any adventure on or off the road. NORRA Honors the Past, while Forging the Future; just like Meyers Manx. No other racing event immerses competitors in the food, drink, culture, and beauty of Baja, like the NORRA Mexican 1000. Participants run the gamut from offroad racing icons and current professionals, to adventure seeking average Joes and well-travelled lovers of Baja. NORRA has classes for bikes, quads, UTV’s, and 4 wheel classes for everything from vintage vehicles to state of the art race cars. They even have classes for RV’s, and emerging electric vehicle technology.
The rally travels all the way down the Baja Peninsula with varied terrain every day, and stops in unique towns every night. After each day of racing you can do any maintenance needed on your vehicle, grab some great food, and then join the party. We celebrate the day, and recharge for the next day’s stage. Remember, although the racing is serious, the goal is to have fun; it’s not a torture test. Many people make note of the incredible spots they pass on the trip down, so they can spend even more leisurely time at those favorite spots on the way home.

ABOUT NORRA
Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.
Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.
NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Meyers Manx, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, Rugged Radios, STEEL-IT, Raceline Wheels / Nomad Wheels / Mobelwagen Wheels, Adler Motorsports, McMillin Racing, Maxima Racing Oils, Multitool USA, Biltwell, Cervecería Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, The Fab School, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
