Moto Road Book Navigation Training For The 2023 Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000! Jimmy Lewis Off-Road Training
Thurs. Feb. 2 At 6:30-8PM (PST)
& Mon. Feb. 13 At 6:30-8PM (PST)

AGUA DULCE, CALIF. - Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 motorcycle competitors who have not taken the road book navigation training last year need to sign up now. Those who did take the course last year and got certified are welcomed to take it again to hone your skills. Jimmy Lewis Off-Road Training will do two evening classes for approximately an hour of instruction each and allow questions till they all get answered. The class dates will be Thursday February 2nd at 6:30-8PM PST and then the following week Monday February 13th at 6:30-8PM PST.

These classes will give a rider/navigator all the information they would need to successfully navigate the NORRA Mexican 1000. They will also give all the information necessary for someone to successfully pass the navigation certification test required for motorcycle entries. The classes will also outline some training drills that can be practiced in the time between the classes allowing students to come back and ask further questions. Live attendance is preferred, but these classes will be recorded and still available for playback to entrants after they have taken place if the timing is not convenient for your schedule.

You must be entered in the race. The online course will have videos, and tasks that you will accomplish on and off your bike. After completing the instruction, every rider will be tested. Those who have experience with road book navigation can go right to the test if they wish, but the training videos contain a wealth of information that is valuable to riders of all skill levels, and experience. Those who take the online course will receive the training at no charge until February 28th. After that date, NORRA will pay half; a $150 dollar charge will be added to your entry fee. Teams with multiple riders will all get training for the same prices.

If you want to take advantage of Jimmy’s personal instruction, you can attend his class in Pahrump, Nevada (contact: jimmy@jimmylewisoffroad.com). NORRA will pay $300 dollars of his normal $900 dollar cost; again only until February 28th. After that date, NORRA will still pay $150 towards your in-person training. NORRA has also entered into an agreement with the Rally Moto Shop to offer discounts on the equipment you will need. Make sure you are entered at norra.com. Jimmy will use the NORRA provided entry list to contact the participants with an invite to the online classroom sessions so please make sure to check the email you have provided to NORRA for details.

The very first bike competitors to challenge Baja were rugged individuals who had very little more than guts, and a sense of adventure. NORRA aims to pay homage to that concept by using a simple form of navigation at our events. It will only add to the fun and challenge, and it will expand each rider’s abilities to match those who compete on a global level.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, Rugged Radios, Adler Motorsports, McMillin Racing, Maxima Racing Oils, Multitool USA, Satélite del Norte, Biltwell, Cervecería Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, The Fab School, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
