2022 NORRA 500 Border Crossing Information
Link Below To Register Vehicles.
NOTE! CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR!

AGUA DULCE, CALIF. - This is an opportunity for convenience that will drastically improve the time for crossing vehicles on their way to NORRA registration. Please follow the rules below.

Please make sure that everyone in your party has passports or passport cards. Every one also must have an FMM or "tourist card." All entries will need to present their FMM cards before crossing into Baja California Sur. To get one, go to www.mexicotouristcard.com, and complete the information there. (In the first step choose "other" for port of entry for land crossing.) Then download and print the resulting form. (Note that all dates on the form are day/month/year.) You may also obtain one at the border. FMM cards are processed at Mexico customs in the blue SAT Aduanas building on the right, immediately after the inspection area. Mexican officials ask that you get it validated at the border crossing, rather than waiting to do it at the Port of Ensenada.

* At the moment the Tourist Card website is not working properly. If you get the error "No se pudo obtener el captcha" or you don't see the picture of the verification code, try again later. We expect the problem will be fixed by Monday or Tuesday, but, if not, you can also get an FFM card at the SAT Aduanas building at the El Chaparral border crossing.

U.S. car insurance is not valid in Mexico. We recommend you get Mexican car insurance before you leave. Short-term insurance can be purchased online at Instant Mexican Car Insurance. Safari entries include basic liability insurance starting April 27 and ending at midnight on May 9. To add to your Safari policy, contact Miguel Rico at Instant Mexican Car Insurance, phone +52 664 120 9742, miguel.rico@prodigy.net.mx.

All NORRA Baja border crossings are to be conducted at the San Ysidro/Tijuana "El Chaparral" border. Crossing at Tecate is specifically not recommended because it cannot handle large vehicles and trailers.

All NORRA racers are to conduct El Chaparral border crossings in Lane #2.

All race teams and support vehicles should have a NORRA sticker on the windshield or visible, printed, NORRA logo on the dashboard. Mexico Customs will be in charge of receiving racers through the border crossing.

All vehicles should have the following documents in order and preferably in a folder ready for inspection:

  • Vehicle registration.
  • Proof of ownership, green sticker, invoice or DMV paperwork.
  • If the owner of race car or support vehicle is not present during crossing, driver must show photocopy of owner’s ID along with paperwork.
  • All vehicles need to have a license plate (except possibly race cars)
  • List and invoices for spare parts you are bringing into Mexico (see below)

NORRA is working to help you get you across the border as easily as possible. Have a list (and invoices) of all major spare parts (engine, transmission, wheel/tires). They must match the race car. The Mexican government has informed us that duty will be charged on spare engines and transmissions, however this will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We have asked the government for clarification on this issue and we will put out an update if anything changes. Only four (4) spare tires per race or chase truck are allowed maximum duty free.

Vehicles with race car spare parts must go across the border simultaneously with race the car. No chase truck with spare parts will be allowed through the Mexican border duty free on its own.

Finally, No gas of any kind allowed through the border!

ATTENTION NORRA RACERS! Mexican officials have asked NORRA and its racers to properly fill out the border crossing information and supply it by no later than Midnight Pacific Time, Sunday, September 25th, 2022.

The Customs Department has asked us to provide vehicle information regarding team vehicles crossing the border. We do not capture this information during registration as it does not pertain to your entry.

It is in your best interest to make sure all your team’s information is included and on the official list so that your crossing into Mexico for the NORRA race is as smooth and expedited as possible. We have added a link to the NORRA registration page to add 'non-race' vehicles. This may be the truck and trailer being used to transport your race car. This may be your chase truck(s). If it is carrying race related equipment - add it.

Drivers and Co-Drivers: Log into the NORRA account created to register for the event as either a driver or co-driver. For Chase and Crew that do not have accounts - create one. The first line item that you will see says 'Mexican Customs'. YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW THE YEAR/MAKE/MODEL/LICENSE PLATE OF YOUR TRUCK AND TRAILER.

NOTE: RACE VEHICLES CROSSING ON TRAILERS DO NOT NEED TO BE ENTERED.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, Rugged Radios, Adler Motorsports, McMillin Racing, Maxima Racing Oils, Multitool USA, Satélite del Norte, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, Schampa, Optima Batteries, K&N, Horsepower Ranch, Baja Bush Pilots, The Fab School, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
