The Fun Has Begun At The 2022 Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 Presented By Method Race Wheels!
Day 1 - Bilstein Tech Inspection

AGUA DULCE, CALIF. The Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels is finally here. Months of hard work put in by NORRA, the many sponsors, government officials, local volunteers, and of course the race teams, has brought everyone together for the 2022 version of "The Happiest Race On Earth!”. Today was the first of two days of Bilstein tech inspection outside the Riviera Convention Center in Ensenada, and the Yokohama Mexican 1000 Welcome Fiesta.
Many of the 262 teams entered have already made their way through tech today, so they can spend tomorrow relaxing, and taking in the events planned for Saturday. Scheduled for Saturday is day two of the Yokohama Mexican 1000 Welcome Fiesta from 10:00am to 6:00pm, the METHOD Happy Hour from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, and the Stroppe Classic Car Round-Up that takes place from 10:00am to 1:00pm. You don’t want to miss seeing the original Big Oly Bronco of Parnelli Jones that will be on display with many other Stroppe vehicles at the Round-up. You can also meet Willie Stroppe, son of Bill Stroppe, and PJ Jones, the son of Parnelli Jones; both are Grand Marshals for the race. Big Oly will be participating in the Slow Baja Safari which is open to OEM vehicles, modified stock vehicles, and pre-approved classic/vintage race vehicles. For those who like the safari class structure, but want to go faster, there is the Rapido Safari class. Rapido will travel faster, and cover more challenging terrain. There is so much fun packed into the Yokohama Mexican 1000, and there is a class for everyone.
During tech inspection, the fans had a great opportunity to see the race vehicles up close, and to meet their favorite drivers. For those at home, the NORRA live feed was running from 10:00am to 12:00pm, and then back again from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The live feed will be broadcasting every day of the rally to bring you all the action. They had many interesting interviews on day one, and more planned for every day going forward. Once the racing starts on Sunday, the morning shows will be at the start, and the evening shows will have live interviews at the finish, and highlights from each day.

What makes NORRA so unique are the cars, trucks, motorcycles, and UTV’s competing. They represent the entire history of off road racing, and the names listed on team rosters are just as impressive. Legends, Icons, regular Joes, and top professionals all compete against each other for five straight days in the most incredible terrain that Baja has to offer. The rally stops in a different location every night so competitors can have a great meal, celebrate the day’s events, and enjoy each town’s unique character. ABOUT NORRA
Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.
Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.
