Everyone Wants To Be A Leader-
The Best Way To Do So Is By Winning!

AGUA DULCE, CALIF. Everyone wants to be a leader, and the best way to do so is by winning! The first racers to win the NORRA Mexican 1000 in 1967 were the Meyers Manx team car of Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels. They were pioneers who helped to establish the sport of off road racing, and launched an automotive icon; Bruce Meyers’ Meyers Manx buggy. The Manx team had three cars in the race; a red car driven by Wilson and Mangels, “Goldi” driven by Bruce Meyers and “Wheelo” Anderson, and a third car driven by George Haddock and Jimmy Smith. That original number 10 car that won the race in 1967 will be at the 2022 Yokohama Norra Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels. It will be joined by the Goldi2 tribute car built by John Kieslich, and Doran Dobranszky and a 1965 Meyers Manx named “El Gusano” driven by Jon Steinhilber, and Joe Lowery.

Just like NORRA honors the past while forging the future, so does Meyers Manx. The Meyers Manx class will have modern Manx cars racing against each other. Duane Falls, and Richard Cushman will be in a 2018 Meyers Manx Dual Sport Baja Edition (No. 355). Dr Robin Mir will be in a 2020 Meyers Manx (No. 418). Mike Dario, Joe Pierce, and Todd Triebler will be in a 2016 built model (No. 302), and the team of Kory Kratz, Paul Lorenz, and Vincent Parisien will be in a brand new 2021 Meyers Manx Dual Sport Baja Edition (No. 1964).

Meyers Manx provides both buggy kits and turnkey cars that cover the full spectrum of performance. From the mighty Subaru powered Dual Sport Baja Edition to the classic Manx Buggy, which is largely unchanged from Bruce’s famous 1960’s design. The company, currently being relaunched with noted automotive designer Freeman Thomas at the helm has a full color and material studio and is able to help customers spec out the buggy of their dreams. Customers are able to go as contemporary or vintage-style as they desire, and the firm has quite a catalog of metalflake paint colors available! One thing will never change; the magical shape that Bruce sculpted in 1964!

Bruce Meyers and the Manx have a legacy with NORRA even deeper than their 1967 win; it was Bruce’s record run with Ted Mangels that inspired Ed Pearlman and Don Francisco to start the first sanctioned race in Baja. This played an enormous role in creating the world of off road racing that we’re so in love with today!

Meyers Manx’s have been driven by everyone from Steve McQueen to Elvis Presley and thrill seekers like them still own Manx’s today. They are the same type of people who race NORRA; dreamers, adventurers, and performance enthusiasts. Anyone who attends the Mexican 1000 this year will see both the cars that started it all, and the modern versions being built today. It will be an incredible opportunity.

The fun, the challenge, the comradery, the support, the food, and drink, and the culture in Baja make NORRA unlike any other event, and there is a place for everyone. Even If you don’t have a race vehicle, you can enter the Safari class for street legal vehicles. You will be on a guided tour that takes in key points of interest, watches the racers compete, and allows you to party with both Baja legends, and average Joes living out their dreams. It’s easy to join NORRA in the fun, just go to www.norra.com where you will find all the information you need. Don’t delay, plan to come down this April 29 - May 6, 2022 to enjoy "The Happiest Race On Earth!" the Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels. Don’t miss it!

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satélite del Norte, Biltwell, Cervecería Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
