Scott Steinberger Named Grand Marshal for the 2021 Yokohama NORRA 500 Presented by Method Race Wheels!

Agua Dulce, CALIF. – Scott Steinberger has been named Grand Marshal for the 2021 Yokohama NORRA 500 presented by Method Race Wheels. Many know Scott from his company PCI Race Radios located in Cypress, CA. PCI is one of the pioneers in the offroad racing community specializing in Communications, Safety Equipment and Navigation. Some of us remember the way things were before we had such sophisticated communications. It was difficult in the early days for even the drivers, and navigators, sitting in the same vehicle, to communicate between each other. The safety, strategy, and ability for race teams to effectively communicate, and navigate has been enhanced immensely by the work done by PCI Race Radios over the many years. They have fundamentally changed the sport for the better. Scott’s father Bob, the “Weatherman,” was the familiar voice heard over the airwaves at races everywhere. He gave everyone a sense of security because he was there to offer assistance whenever it was needed, and Scott has continued his legacy.

In addition to the great work done at PCI, Scott has been a lifelong racer who has competed in many different classes over the years. He raced everything from a Chenoweth Mini Mag to limited class trucks with well-respected fabricator Larry Plank. He competed in Ivan Stewart’s Protruck series, and eventually landed in the Unlimited Trophy Truck class. Since NORRA was reborn in 2010, Scott has participated in the series every year; he is a die-hard NORRA participant.

“I’ve always loved being in Baja,” says Scott. “When I raced the Baja 1000, it was always a lot of stress. You went down there, and it was always something you had to tough out. You would hope to finish, but if you didn’t your time was up. You would turn North, and go home exhausted; everything was just a blur. NORRA has the same racing challenges, but gives you several days to enjoy the entire Baja experience. You get to cherish Baja, and all the friends you make along the way. I am really proud of Mike Pearlman taking over his father’s legacy, as I have tried to do the same.”

NORRA events are unlike any others on the Baja peninsula. Racers get to compete during the day, and then have time at night to take in the hospitality, food, libations, and culture that makes Baja so special. The competition is fierce, but so is the special bond with each other, as the goal is to have fun, and get everyone to the finish line. The adventures of each day are shared in the pits, and at the fiestas that take place each night. That’s why hardcore racers, and everyday people who love to go fast keep coming back to NORRA. While NORRA is famous for the Mexican 1000 that travels the length of the Baja Peninsula, the Yokohama NORRA 500 presented by Method Race Wheels is a logistically simpler event that starts, and finishes in Ensenada each day so that crews, and family members can enjoy Mexico while not having to do so much travel. It’s the perfect event for first timers, and people who may be new to Baja. In addition to the friendly format, NORRA is open to every kind of race vehicle you can imagine; there really is a class for everyone. If you don’t have a race vehicle, you can participate in the Safari class that’s open to street legal vehicles. The Safari class is led by Baja aficionado Michael Emery of Slow Baja fame. He takes you on a journey that takes in some of the action on the course, as well as points of interest, and amazing scenery in the area.

No matter what you drive, don’t miss out on all the fun. Go to www.norra.com today to find out how you too can participate in the NORRA 500, or Mexican 1000.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
