NORRA Turns Up the Heat on UTV Competition
The UTV and 2000 classes at the 2024 NORRA Mexican 1000 are heating up. UTV Pro Turbo & Pro 2000 competitors will be qualifying for starting positions on day one of the Mexican 1000 which takes place in Ensenada, Baja California. The rally runs from Friday, April 26th through Saturday, May 4th. Registration opens this Friday, December 1st beginning at 12:00 noon Pacific Time online at www.norra.com. The course travels the length of the Baja Peninsula. PRO TURBO UTV and PRO 2000 classes will be the first to go through tech on Friday because they will be qualifying. Qualifying positions are critical because Pro Turbo & Pro 2000 class competitors will be battling it out for purses totaling $20,000; $10,000 dollars for each class.
UTV participants may also enter the jackpot feature. What makes this special is that only those who enter the Jackpot are eligible to win it. The highest finisher in each class among the jackpot participants at the end of the Mexican 1000 will be crowned the jackpot champion, walking away with the entire jackpot prize pool for their class. The cost to enter the jackpot feature is $500 and can be made in person at registration.
Huge prizes are up for grabs, but it won’t be easy. After two days of registration and tech inspection in Ensenada, the course heads to the fishing village of San Felipe. Racing classes will have several timed special stages on the way. On Monday the 29th, the UTV’s race through challenging terrain to Bay of Los Angeles. On day three of competition, Tuesday the 30th, the final destination is San Ignacio. San Ignacio will be an all-new experience for NORRA. The town is an oasis in an otherwise foreboding desert filled with cactus and volcanic rock. The date palms and citrus orchards around town were planted by the Jesuits who also built the beautiful mission back in 1728.
From San Ignacio competitors travel to Loreto on Wednesday the 1st of May. Thursday the 2nd, the course heads south from Loreto to La Paz. On Friday the 3rd of May we complete the final day of competition from La Paz to San Jose Del Cabo. After 6 days of racing, NORRA will hold the awards ceremony on the beach on the 4th of May. You can celebrate Cinco de Mayo anyway you like on the leisurely trip home.
