2020 Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 Grand Marshal Mark McMillin To Finish What He Started In 2013

Agua Dulce, CALIF. – Mark McMillin was named NORRA Mexican 1000 Grand Marshal in 2013. The 5 time Baja 1000 overall winner was unable to attend the awards ceremony that year after contact with another vehicle on course. His iconic Porsche powered “Macadu” car was able to continue the following day, but Mark suffered a broken collarbone and had to leave the rally early to receive treatment. In 2020, Mark will be able to finish what he started as he is again named Grand Marshal for the rally. Mark joins an elite group of racing icons who have had the honor of being grand marshal for “The Happiest Race on Earth!”. McMillin is not just an accomplished offroad racer, and frequent NORRA competitor, but he and his father Corky are the first father and son to both be named to the Offroad Motorsports Hall of Fame. ORMHOF inductees get special VIP treatment at NORRA events, including their own table at the awards banquet and other benefits befitting their place of prominence in the sport. Not only is Mark in the Hall of Fame, but he was one of the original competitors who put their support behind NORRA when it brought the Mexican 1000 back in 2010. Mark has also earned a Bilstein Madonna award given to racers who “win a championship in a major American racing series, display sportsmanship, and positive character traits on, and off the track, and possesses an intense desire to win while overcoming adversities. The tradition of the Madonna Award in the United States began in 1984 with the NASCAR Winston Cup Championships, and has evolved to recognize the accomplishments of individuals in many areas of motorsports, including Dale Earnhardt, Mark Stahl, Ivan Stewart, and Mark McMillin.”

The entire McMillin family is deeply involved in offroad racing. Mark and his brother Scott raced with their father Corky, and the third generation of McMillin’s, Mark’s sons Luke, and Dan along with Scott’s son Andy, and daughter Jessica all compete and excel in offroad racing. Mark McMillin has contributed so much to so many in the offroad racing community, he deserves the honor of being Grand Marshal a second time. We just hope this time he can enjoy the amazing awards presentation brought to us every year by Michael Gaughan and the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel Casino, K&N, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Timberline, Schampa, Satellite Phone Store.com, PCI Race Radios, Warn, Biltwell, USActionTrax, Joe Hauler, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
